CATHERINE W GICHUKIDOHA With the Delta variant present in Qatar, as in most other countries around the world, getting the COVID-19 vaccine was more important than ever, according to a Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) official.Dr. Yousef Al Maslamani, Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital, has urged those hesitant to get vaccinated for COVID-19 to do so to help in the fight against the Delta variant. âDelta variant is now present all over the world and Qatar. This variant is very contagious and spreads very widely. We now have vaccines that are effective against this variant and others, and are safe for the public. If you got the vaccine, thank you very much for doing that. If you got the first dose, please go ahead and get your second dose at the time that is appropriate. If you are still hesitant this is the time to decide and help us to control the Delta variant before it spreads more. Your support is expected and warranted,â he said.Dr. Al Maslamani thanked the public for following the protocols and making themselves available for the vaccine. âThese two factors aided us in reducing the number of cases and keeping the disease under control. After the Eid Al-Adha holiday, the numbers began to rise slightly, but this is to be expected due to socialising and visits.âDr. Jameela Al Ajmi, Executive Director of the Infection Control Department at Hamad Medical Corporation, said that while restrictions on COVID-19 are gradually being lifted, COVID-19 remains.âCovid-19 is still a threat to our health and is well-known around the world. I urge community members to follow the preventative measures and restrictions in place to assist us in controlling the virus and preventing a significant increase in COVID-19 cases in Qatar. This means continuing to wear a mask, keeping a social distance, washing your hands, and hastening the vaccination process.âMore Related News
