Israel Carries Out Airstrikes in Gaza

Israel’s military carried out airstrikes in the Gaza Strip early Wednesday in what it said was a response to the launching of incendiary balloons from the Palestinian territory. 

The strikes targeted sites linked to the militant group Hamas and were the first since a cease-fire ended 11 days of violence between the two sides last month.  Hamas had warned it would take action if Israeli nationalists went through with plans for a march in East Jerusalem on Tuesday.  Hundreds of people turned out for the march, congregating for a time at the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City before traveling to the Western Wall.
