Islanders sign towering second-round pick Daniil Prokhorov to three-year deal
NY Post
The Islanders inked second-round pick Daniil Prokhorov to a three-year entry-level contract Tuesday morning, the team announced, making him their third 2025 draft pick to sign after Matthew Schaefer and Victor Eklund.
Exact terms were not immediately available.
Prokhorov, a 6-foot-6 right wing, stood out at rookie camp in July for his size.
The 18-year-old Prokhorov is set to play this season in Russia on a two-way deal with Dynamo Moscow, allowing him to play in both the KHL and the second-division MHL, where he played last season with Dynamo St. Petersburg.
“I can’t even pronounce his name, but Prokhorov, quite impressive,” AHL Bridgeport coach Rocky Thompson said.
“I’m not evaluating people, but he popped in the [scrimmage]. Just popped out and, it was weird, your eyes got drawn to him for some reason. I think he was doing good things on the ice.”

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.

Wednesday was another positive day at Yankees camp. For the first time since March 6, 2025 — an outing in which he knew “something wasn’t right,” which began a weeks-long saga that ended on the operating table for Tommy John surgery — Gerrit Cole was back on a mound and facing hitters in game action.
