Islanders add two-time Stanley Cup winner Tommy Albelin as assistant coach
NY Post
Lou Lamoriello went back to the well of former Devils staffers to fill out the Islanders’ coaching staff.
The Islanders named Tommy Albelin an assistant coach on Monday, bringing him back behind an NHL bench for the first time in a decade.
Albelin is expected to coach the defenseman after Doug Houda was let go.
It’s not clear whether Albelin or Benoit Desrosiers will run the penalty kill, which was also one of Houda’s responsibilities.
Albelin, who played for the Devils under Lamoriello in the ’90s and 2000s, winning two Stanley Cups, worked for the team from 2007-15 as well, with stints as an assistant for both the NHL club and the AHL Albany Devils.
He followed Lamoriello to Toronto as well, working for the Leafs as a pro scout for two seasons from 2016-18.

SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.

Wednesday was another positive day at Yankees camp. For the first time since March 6, 2025 — an outing in which he knew “something wasn’t right,” which began a weeks-long saga that ended on the operating table for Tommy John surgery — Gerrit Cole was back on a mound and facing hitters in game action.
