IPL 2022, MI vs RR: Rohit Sharma set to join Virat Kohli in elite 10,000-run club

IPL 2022: Rohit Sharma, who will be looking to help Mumbai Indians bounce back from their opening-day defeat when they face Rajasthan Royals on Saturday, is on the verge of achieving a major T20 landmark.

Mumbai Indians and India captain Rohit Sharma is all set to become only the 7th batter to complete 10,000 runs in the men's T20 cricket. The 34-year-old is just 64 runs away from reaching the landmark as he prepares to lead MI in their 2nd match of IPL 2022 against Rajasthan Royals at the DY Pati Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

Rohit Sharma will become only the 2nd Indian batter after Virat Kohli to get to to the 10,000-run mark in the shortest format of the game. Rohit has scored 3313 runs in T20I cricket and holds the record for the most runs scored in the shortest format at the international level. He has scored 5652 runs in the IPL, sitting at the 3rd spot in the all-time scorer's list in the T20 tournament.

IPL 2022 Full Coverage | Points Table

Rohit looked in good touch in Mumbai's IPL 2022 opener, hitting 41 from just 32 balls, smashing 2 sixes and 4 boundaries. However, MI lost their opener for the 10th successive year, failing to defend a 177-run total against the Delhi Capitals.

While Rohit will be looking to achieve the milestone on Saturday, his focus will be on helping Mumbai Indians open their account against Rajasthan Royals, who decimated SunRisers Hyderabad by 61 runs in their IPL 2022 opener.

Mumbai Indians will have the returning Suryakumar Yadav's flamboyance in the middle-order as they look to bounce back.

Suryakumar, who has joined the team after his recovery at the NCA, will likely bat at number three and has the ability to play match-winning knocks at any positions. He will be keen to get going quickly and justify the faith shown in him by the owners.
