IPL 2022, MI vs RR: Jos Buttler hit a scintillating hundred as Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by 23 runs to make it their second win on the trot at Mumbai's Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on Saturday.

Rajasthan Royals rode on Jos Buttler's scintillating hundred to storm to their second successive victory in the Indian Premier League 2022 as they defeated listless Mumbai Indians in the 9th match of IPL 2022 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on Saturday. Set 211, MI could only manage 170/7 in their quota of 20 overs against the RR bowling attack.

Buttler assault

Jos Buttler took the Mumbai bowlers to the cleaners and smashed a 66-ball 100 as the Rajasthan star became the first centurion of the 15th edition of IPL. Buttler, who hit 11 fours and five sixes, in his 68-ball innings was severe on MI attack save Bumrah, whose 3 for 17 was largely the reason for MI being able to restrict Royals to sub-200 score which looked imminent at one point.

The explosive batter played shots all around the park to bring up his second IPL hundred after RR lost Yashashvi Jaiswal (1) and Devdutt Padikkal (7) cheaply. He went berserk in Basil Thampi's first over, hammering the MI pacer for three sixes and two boundaries, as Rajasthan fetched 26 runs and raced to 43/1.

At 87/2, after 10 overs, the stage was set for a big score. Buttler was playing big shots at will and was ably supported by his captain. Buttler, who hit two successive boundaries off Sams, brought up his fifty in just 32 balls and then took the Mumbai Indians attack to the task.

Samson, Hetmyer show

Skipper Sanju Samson (30 off 21 balls) played a handy cameo as he and Buttler added 82 runs for the third wicket. Samson hit three sixes and a four, before being dismissed by Kieron Pollard in the 15th over. Then it was the Hetymar show, as he smashed compatriot Pollard for two fours and as many sixes in the 17th over, where RR collected 26 runs. Buttler paced his innings well and reached the three-figure mark with a single.
