Former India fast bowler Irfan Pathan said on Monday that Kolkata Knight Riders can't afford to not retain Venkatesh Iyer, saying the all-rounder will be a hot pick if he goes into the auction pool.

8 IPL team are working towards preparing their retention list for IPL 2022 with the deadline being November 30. The 8 existing teams can't retain more than 3 Indian players (capped or uncapped) while they can't retain more than 2 overseas players. The two new teams, Ahmedabad and Lucknow, will be allowed to pick players after the retentions are announced.
