Summer internship programmes in Tiruchi’s educational institutions are helping students diversify their network and learn about long-term professional options
Summer internship programmes in Tiruchi’s educational institutions are helping students diversify their network and learn about long-term professional options.
Over 1,500 undergraduate applicants have been selected for this year’s summer internship offered by National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi (NIT-T) to be held from May 1 to July 31.
“This is a unique opportunity for undergraduates from other colleges to interact with subject experts and collaborate with NIT-T faculty. Most of the interns will be absorbed into ongoing projects and expected to work on solutions to research challenges, using our facilities. NIT-T will benefit from the fresh perspective brought in by students from other colleges while the interns will gain insight into their future professional choices,” a senior official told The Hindu.
The residential programme allows candidates to select a faculty mentor depending on their interests. Consent from the NIT-T faculty mentor is mandatory. The students can complete their internship for a minimum four weeks and a maximum eight weeks (irrespective of the start date).
The Department of Geology at National College is organising a focused internship programme from May 19 to May 30. According to an official release, the initiative, designed for M.Sc students, offers interns a valuable opportunity to engage in hands-on research and practical training in key areas of geosciences, including Environmental Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Sedimentology, Plastic Pollution, Remote Sensing, and GIS Applications, and Micropaleontology. The candidates will be guided by faculty members.
At the Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), internship programmes are held during the summer and winter. “The internship is a mandatory part of the course and students will be evaluated for it. Our students work as interns for non-governmental organisations, senior advocates, judges, and law firms. As the interns interact with lawyers, they have a first-hand experience of the field. If they are good enough, the same lawyers or law firms will recruit the interns after graduation,” said TNNLU Registrar S.M. Balakrishnan.
Mr. Balakrishnan added that TNNLU would be offering summer internships for students from other institutions in the next academic year, once the infrastructure was upgraded.
