This is Odisha's first Omicron casualty. The woman's swab sample was sent for genome sequencing and the report, that arrived after her demise, showed her Omicron positive, Sahu said.
For the unversed, India's first death due to the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 was reported in Rajasthan. The 73-year-old man from Udaipur who was infected with Omicron died on December 31, 2021.
