India's Omicron tally surges to over 1,400; Covid-19 cases highest after 275 day

India recorded 22-775 new Covid-19 cases and 406 deaths due to the infection in the last 24 hours, the Union health ministry said in its update on Saturday.

India saw a sharp spike in the number of Covid-19 cases on Saturday. As many as 22,775 new Covid-19 cases -- the highest after 275 days -- were reported in the country in the last 24 hours. These fresh cases have pushed the overall caseload to 3,48,61,579.

Saturday's Covid-19 tally was 35.9 per cent higher than that reported by the Union health ministry on Friday.
