In a first, the Bombay High Court has granted permission to a 24-week pregnant woman to abort her triplets after a court-mandated medical board advised that the continuation of the pregnancy will affect her mental health. A bench of Justices SJ Kathawalla and SP Tavade pronounced the order on Friday on a plea filed by the woman and her husband. The woman, 41, has a history of psychiatric treatment and already has an eight-year-old daughter. Her husband works as a driver and earns Rs 12,000 to 15,000 monthly. The couple had to approach the court as the woman's pregnancy had crossed the cut-off period of 24 weeks and according to the new amendment to the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971, she needed a court's order to terminate the entire pregnancy.More Related News
