
Hurricane Nicholas nears landfall in Texas as the state prepares for torrential rain

Texans are bracing for fierce winds, heavy rain and possible flooding as Hurricane Nicholas is set to make landfall Tuesday morning.
Nicholas picked up strength in the Gulf of Mexico Monday night, reaching Category 1 hurricane strength with winds of 75 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. The system was about 20 miles southeast of Matagorda, Texas, according to the NHC update.
