How to deal with bad breath during Ramadan fasting

Tribune News Network Doha It is not uncommon to have bad breath during Ramadan, which is caused by a build-up of bacteria in the mouth Here are some tips from the Ministry of Public Health to help against halitosis and tooth decay:  1. Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing teeth twice a day to cleanse the mouth of bacteria and food remnants  2. Brush your teeth after Suhoor.  3. Drink plenty of water at Iftar and Suhoor. 4. If you experience 'dry mouth' you can rinse your mouth; using a mouth wash is permitted during Ramadan but take care to avoid swallowing any liquid.  5. Brush your tongue to get rid of white residue that coats the tongue.  6. If you have a denture, use antiseptic solution to clean them.   All patients are recommended to: 1. Brush and floss their teeth twice a day to prevent oral diseases, which can occur anytime of the year, including Ramadan. 2. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits can help the body stay healthier and hydrated.  3. Avoid overly salt and spicy food which can cause indigestion and dehydration.  4. Avoid or minimize sticky food, such as sweets and chocolates as well as sugary drinks, especially before bedtime.  5. Avoid smoking as the nicotine can stain your teeth, add to bad breath as well as other healthcare dangers. 6. Using the miswak is a Sunnah during ablution. It has been proven to help reduce plaque and gingivitis through its strong antibacterial properties.
