How athletics is helping India’s Siddi community gain recognition

Siddis often seen as outsiders because of their curly hair and features.

Ravikiran Siddi is just like any other runner. He wants to run faster. The 19-year-old’s personal best in 100 metres is 10.8 seconds. India’s national record is 10.26 seconds while the world record by Usain Bolt stands at 9.58 seconds. His short-term goal this year is to clock 10.5 seconds, Ravikiran told Al Jazeera. In the long term, he hopes to win medals at international events.
