Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Metabolic Institute (QMI) at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has strengthened its dedicated Type 1 Diabetes Service, supporting individuals living with Type 1 diabetes to manage their condition confidently at home, at work and in everyday life.
Type 1 diabetes, which usually begins in childhood, requires continuous daily management, and Qatar continues to observe a rising incidence among young people, highlighting the importance of early support, structured education, mental well-being services and access to advanced treatment throughout adulthood.
As the sole public provider of secondary and specialised diabetes services in Qatar, HMC serves as the national referral centre for adults diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, ensuring continuous, coordinated and high-quality care across the country.
The service is delivered in line with the Qatar National Clinical Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Type 1 Diabetes in Adults and the Elderly, and incorporates advanced diabetes technologies such as insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems and hybrid closed-loop devices.
Care is delivered across HMC’s JCI-accredited National Diabetes Centres and provided through a multidisciplinary team of endocrinologists, diabetes educators, dietitians, psychologists, podiatrists, clinical pharmacists, ophthalmologists and specialist nurses, supporting both physical and emotional well-being.
