Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles explains the history and significance of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose feast day is December 12 each year.
The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe commemorates the anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin Mary at Tepeyac, a hill located near Mexico City, to an indigenous man named Juan Diego, as Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles told Fox News Digital in an interview. "Many people don't realize the Virgin of Guadalupe has been venerated in this country since long before the American Revolution." Christine Rousselle is a lifestyle reporter with Fox News Digital.
The name given to the apparition is "Our Lady of Guadalupe," as the area would eventually become known as "Villa de Guadalupe."
