A snowfall warning issued for Metro Vancouver Tuesday morning is urging commuters to prepare for heavy flurries throughout the day.
Environment Canada's warning said about five centimetres could accumulate, but heavy snowfall during morning and afternoon commutes could cause travel delays.
The North Shore, northeastern parts of Metro Vancouver and some areas in Burnaby and New Westminster are expected to be especially impacted by "pockets of heavy flurries," Environment Canada warned.
"This will produce sudden reduction in visibility in heavy snow and rapidly accumulating snow on the surface that began last night and will continue this morning," the weather warning said.
"The timing of these flurries is difficult to predict but the potential for impacts on the morning and afternoon commute is high."
Flurries are expected to lessen by the evening.
"Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow," Environment Canada warned.
