Hamilton police have charged a local Catholic school teacher with numerous sex crimes after allegations surfaced on social media in September.
The post alleged assaults between 2003 and 2005 by someone who the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board confirmed had been teaching for "a number of years."
The teacher was working at Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School on Rymal Road East when the allegations surfaced.
Shortly after the social media posts emerged, the board said it took the teacher out of its schools.
Police say several people came forward with allegations, and on Wednesday, the 53-year-old from Hamilton was arrested.
Brian Boyle faces four counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual exploitation and one count of sexual interference. He'll appear in court on Dec. 6, according to police.
"We want all survivors of sexual violence to know that we believe them and we will respect their choice in when they report an incident, where and how," reads a police news release.
CBC News reached out to Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board for comment.
The Ontario College of Teachers said in an email it is aware of the matter but cannot confirm if it is investigating.
