Gujarat court sentences man to life imprisonment for murder of police constable

Police Constable Chandrakant Makwana was bludgeoned to death by narcotics suspect Manish Balai on the premises of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch in 2016.

A sessions court on Thursday found a man guilty for the murder of a police constable at the Ahmedabad Crime Branch and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a penalty of Rs 25,000. Police Constable Chandrakant Makwana was bludgeoned to death by narcotics suspect Manish Balai inside the city crime branch headquarters at Gaekwad Haveli in 2016. Later, Balai was nabbed by the police at Karjan railway station near Vadodara as he was trying to flee to Jaipur.
