Vicky Kaushal plays a background dancer in the film
Vicky Kaushal has an enviable body of work in Bollywood. But aren't all his roles a bit too intense? That is what director-producer Karan Johar thinks and he wants this to change. Enter: Govinda Mera Naam. In a fun video, Karan and Vicky have announced that the film will have a direct-to-OTT release. The video features Karan pitching the film's script to Vicky. It starts off with the director praising the actor. He even calls him a “firecracker entertainer” but not before wondering aloud if he will only always play intense characters like a freedom fighter or an army officer.
Karan Johar even says, “Dukh tera khatam hi nahi hota,” referring to the iconic dialogue from Vicky's breakthrough film Masaan.
A stumped Vicky Kaushal tried to defend himself but Karan Johar is insistent that he should play “masaledaar” roles that bring out the actor's fun side.
He then pitches the story ofGovinda Naam Mera, which Vicky first mistakes for a biopic on Bollywood icon Govinda. Instead, Karan tells him that this is a story of a background dancer Govinda who is neck deep in debts. To add to this, his wife has a boyfriend and she even beats Govinda up occasionally.
