Gita Gopinath to become IMF's first deputy managing director

Indian-American Gita Gopinath is set to take on the role of IMF's first deputy managing director early next year.

Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund, Indian-American Gita Gopinath, is set to become the organisation’s first deputy managing director early next year after the exit of Geoffrey Okamoto, who is currently holding the post.

Gopinath, the IMF’s first woman chief economist, was slated to return to her academic position at Harvard University in January next year.
