Kigali: During the official visit of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Rwanda in November 2025, President Paul Kagame welcomed the Amir to his private farm in Kibugabuga and gifted him with Inyambo, Rwanda’s legendary long-horned royal cattle.
This gesture was far more than a customary exchange of gifts; it drew from Rwanda’s deep cultural traditions, where Inyambo are offered only in contexts of profound respect and meaningful relationship. Through this honour, President Kagame conveyed a message of friendship and trust in a manner that goes beyond formal protocol.
* What Are Inyambo?
Rwanda’s Cattle Inyambo holds a distinguished place in Rwanda's history. They are Rwandan cattle, prestigious herds once kept by kings for the country, and their well being was an indicator of the country’s prosperity and cultural vitality. Their most striking feature is their appearance: tall, elegant bodies crowned with sweeping, symmetrical white horns that rise several feet into the air like works of natural sculpture. Their presence alone conveys dignity and an unmistakable connection to the country's past.
Creating purebred Inyambo required generations of meticulous breeding through a sophisticated Rwandan ancestral process of careful crossbreeding, with only the finest specimens selected at each stage to ensure continuous refinement of the bloodline.
