Freezing rain warning in effect across southern Ontario Tuesday

Freezing rain may lead to dangerous road conditions and potential power outages, prompting Environment Canada to issue a warning across southern Ontario on Tuesday.
The freezing rain is expected to start in the morning or early afternoon, the weather agency said, including freezing drizzle. Later in the afternoon, it should change over to rain as temperatures rise.
One to five millimeters of ice buildup is possible between Hamilton and London, and north toward Owen Sound.
Whether driving or walking, getting around will to be more difficult, Environment Canada meteorologist Alyssa Young said.
"Make sure you leave lots of space when you're driving or leave lots of extra time to get to where you need to go, so that you can go slower than you're used to," she said.
Police are also encouraging drivers to take it easy on the roads and leave extra distance between vehicles.
"Please reduce your speed, and drive according to the road and weather conditions," Ontario Provincial Police spokesperson Ed Sanchuk said. "Make sure you get to where you're going safely, but more importantly, you get home safely to your families."
Tuesday's freezing rain is not expected to be as bad as the ice storm on Boxing Day, Young pointed out. Still, the ice accumulation could lead to local utility outages, the Environment Canada warning said.
