A nurse from Florida has been arrested for allegedly threatening to kill US Vice President Kamala Harris, following an investigation by the US Secret Service.
A 39-year-old nurse in the US state of Florida has been arrested for allegedly threatening to kill Vice President Kamala Harris, according to media reports on Saturday. Niviane Petit Phelps was arrested following an investigation by the US Secret Service, CNN reported. Harris, 56, is the first woman, the first Black American, and the first South Asian American to be elected Vice President.
Women are treated in the new penal code as being on the same level as "slaves", with provisions allowing either "slave masters" or husbands to administer discretionary punishment, including beatings, to their wives or subordinates. This aspect of the code has drawn particular alarm from rights groups.
