Five years of prohibition: spurious liquor and hooch deaths continue to stalk dry Bihar

Opposition leaders say the law has failed in the State
Bihar completed five years of prohibition on Monday but illicit liquor and hooch deaths have been stalking the dry State raising questions over effective implementation of the law. Easy availability of alcohol — both Indian-made foreign liquor and country-made — across the State has put a serious doubt over the government’s claim of stringent implementation of the law. The Bihar Excise and Prohibition Act came into effect on April 5, 2016. In the last week of March 2021, as many as 15 people died and many others lost their sight after spurious liquor consumption in Nawada district alone. Some others lost their lives in Begusarai and Sasaram districts after consuming spurious liquor on the occasion of Holi (festival of colours).More Related News
