Five students injured as portion of concrete ceiling collapses in a classroom in Dindigul

Concrete roof collapse injures students at Santhai Road Corporation Middle School in Dindigul, sparking investigation and official visits.
At least five students were injured after a portion of the concrete ceiling of a newly constructed classroom at the Santhai Road Corporation Middle School in Nagal Nagar in Dindigul collapsed, on Friday.
Infrastructure development works were under way on the school premises in which around 400 students were studying. The works included building and toilet repair works. Under these circumstances, a portion of the concrete roof fell on the students. It was said that the classroom was newly constructed.
The teachers immediately rushed the injured students to Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. On hearing about the incident, the parents rushed to the school and the other school children were sent home with their parents.
Police, Revenue and Corporation officials visited the school premises and inquired about the incident. They inquired the teachers and inspected the classroom where the incident took place. Later, they visited the injured students undergoing treatment at the government hospital and inquired about their condition.
Rural Development Minister I. Periyasamy visited the injured students at the hospital and assured that appropriate action would be taken against those involved. Former Minister Dindigul C. Sreenivasan also visited the injured students at the hospital.
The Dindigul South Police is conducting an investigation into the incident. Corporation Assistant Engineer Thiyagarajan has been temporarily suspended following the incident.
