Firefighters union says it is 'heartbroken' after fire in Lower Sackville, N.S.

A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital after his neighbour rescued him from a house fire in Lower Sackville, N.S.

A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital after his neighbour rescued him from a house fire in Lower Sackville, N.S., Saturday morning, said an RCMP news release.

Fire services rescued three children from the fire, aged five, six and nine. They were transported to hospital by EHS.

Two other occupants, a 37-year-old woman and a two-year-old child exited the house safely and without injury.

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, EHS and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency responded to the report of the house fire in Lower Sackville at approximately 3:10 a.m., Saturday, said the release.

The Halifax Professional Fire Fighters Union issued a statement on X Saturday evening that said they were “heartbroken” after the fire and grateful for the support they had received. There was no further update in the statement.

On Sunday, Deputy Fire Chief David Meldrum said there were no further updates available in an email to CTV. Meldrum said there was no indication that the Lower Sackville fire was suspicious or connected to any other incident.

On Saturday Alyssa Porter organized and launched a GoFundMe campaign for Tanya, Jermaine and their family who lived at the burned home on Riverside Drive in Lower Sackville. The campaign has raised more than $17,000.
