Firefighters battle apartment blaze in Victoria

Firefighters are attacking an apartment fire in the James Bay neighbourhood of Victoria on Monday morning.

The fire is on the top floor of the Village Green Apartments on Menzies Street.

Flames and thick smoke could be seen from the street as fire crews battled the blaze from both sides of the building.

At least two suites appeared to be on fire just before 9 a.m.

Firefighters were seen entering the building with axes and a chainsaw. Later, firefighters were cutting through the building’s roof with the saw.

At least one person was treated by paramedics at the scene though there is no official word yet on injuries.

Menzies Street remains closed to all traffic.
