In a tweet, the Winnipeg Police Service asked drivers to avoid the 800 block of Main Street as both northbound and southbound lanes have been closed to traffic.
Other local road closures are also in effect
Police said firefighters are currently on the scene in response to a building fire.
In another social media post, the City of Winnipeg said it expects fire crews to be on location for several hours dealing with the fire.
Residents are asked to avoid the area.
