This incident comes shortly after another tragic accident in West Delhis Janakpuri, where 25-year-old Kamal Dhyani died on February 5 when his motorcycle fell into a deep pit dug for Delhi Jal Board work on Joginder Singh Marg while returning home from Rohini.
Police have registered an FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with a 32-year-old labourer who tragically fell into an open sewer near the Mahashakti Kali Temple in Rohini Sector 32, Delhi.
"Regarding a person falling into a sewer in the jurisdiction of Police Station Begumpur, a case (FIR No. 96/26) under Sections 285 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at PS Begumpur. Further investigation is underway," IANS quoted Delhi Police as saying.
Earlier authorities said they received a PCR call at around 2:36 pm reporting a missing person who was suspected to have fallen into an open sewer on vacant Delhi Development Authority (DDA) land. Upon reaching the location, the caller, Amir Hussain, informed police that his friend, Birju Kumar Rai, had fallen into an open manhole.
Further investigation revealed that the victim and another labourer, Budhan Das, had consumed alcohol on Monday night. While returning to their jhuggi at around 7:30 pm, Birju reportedly lost his balance and fell into the open drain. Budhan Das, who was also intoxicated at the time, did not alert anyone immediately and shared the information only the following afternoon.
Police stated that the fire brigade, DDA, and other agencies were immediately informed, and a rescue operation was launched. With assistance from the fire brigade, the victim’s body was recovered from the manhole and sent to the hospital.
