Lawrence Thompson will remain behind bars for another four years, six months and seven days.
Lawrence Thompson, 69, has been sentenced in connection with the kidnapping of a four-year-old girl in 2018.
Thompson, a former school custodian, was convicted of sexual interference, sexual assault, kidnapping and abducting a child under 14 in May.
In her decision, Justice Mitchell sentenced Thompson to a total of 10 years with credit being given for time served. Meaning, Thompson will remain behind bars for another four years, six months and seven days.
Once released, Thompson will also have to abide by a mandatory weapons prohibition order, go on the sex offender registry, have no contact with the victim or her family and will be prohibited from attending a public park or public swimming area where persons under the age of 16 years are present, or can reasonably be expected to be present, or a daycare center school ground playground or community center being within two kilometers of any no one place of residence, employment or education of the victim.
The conviction stems from the kidnapping and sexual assault of a girl in May 2018. She was riding her bike when Thompson grabbed her and put her in his car near the intersection of Barker Street and Melsandra Avenue.
The sentencing hearing has already heard statements from the victim and her family, as well as from Thompson himself.
In October, Thompson described his fears and said he'd been dealing with verbal and physical abuse while at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre.
