Feroz Khan's drunken praise for Sadhana, SRK fan falls at his feet, iconic IFFA moments on Monday Masala
India Today
In this week’s Monday Masala, we take a trip down memory lane to recall some of the biggest and most iconic moments in IIFA history.
The IFFA Awards is possibly the biggest night on the entertainment calendar. From honouring the best artists of Indian cinema to celebrating Bollywood on a befitting masaaledaar night, IIFA is everything dreams are made of. But, over the past 22 years of its existence, the International Indian Film Academy Awards has had its fair share of controversies and scandals. From boycotts to hosting disasters, we have seen it all. Now that the 22nd IFFA Awards have concluded, we thought of giving you a rundown of some of the biggest controversial moments in IFFA history!
Karan Johar is not new to scandals. Back in 2017, the filmmaker invoked the controversy over nepotism in Bollywood at the IIFA Awards. It all started when Varun Dhawan, son of director David Dhawan, won Best Actor in a Comic Role for his work in Dishoom.
As soon as the actor reached the stage to join Karan, son of producer Yash Johar and Saif, son of actress Sharmila Tagore, the Race actor said, "You are here because of your Papa.” Then Varun Dhawan added, "And you're here because of your mummy." Karan Johar responded, "I am here because of my Papa." The trio then said in unison, "Nepotism rocks."
The same year, Kangana Ranaut had called Karan Johar intolerant towards outsiders and a flag bearer of nepotism on his popular chat show Koffee With Karan.
IIFA 2011 witnessed a crazy fan moment when someone from the audience risked everything to meet Shah Rukh Khan. While we have come across several strange things fans do for their favourite celebs, this definitely surpassed them all! During the award show, an over-enthusiastic fan managed to breach security and ran to the stage to meet SRK.
However, he grabbed the actor's injured leg and was not ready to let go despite continuous requests. Shah Rukh managed the situation well. He not only asked the security to deal with him respectfully but also agreed to meet him backstage after the show.
