A woman present during a Winnipeg drug house shooting says she was tied up, beaten and threatened to stay silent by the father and sister of the alleged gunman, court heard.
Xena Hall, 28, testified Tuesday that Jamie Felix and his late father Randolph (Chummy) Fagnan left, then re-entered the site of the mass shooting on Langside Street on Nov. 26, 2023.
"I remember Jamie coming in last … holding his hand up and all of a sudden … bullets firing," she told Crown attorney Chantal Boutin. "All I heard was just loud bangs."
Hall said Fagnan, her on-again-off-again boyfriend at the time, pulled her into the bathroom as a couple more shots rang out.
"Chummy got out of the tub to go see what was going on, he was yelling … 'Give me the handgun,' or something like that," Hall said. "[Felix] said, 'What did you guys make me do,' or something like that."
Felix fled. Hall said she took off with drugs from the suite and went with Fagnan and his daughter to Fagnan's Powers Street apartment.
"They tied me to a chair and beat me," Hall said. "They were saying, 'don't say it was my son, don't say it was my brother,' or they were going to come after my family."
Felix evaded capture at his grandmother's, at a motel and elsewhere until Dec. 1 that year, when he was arrested at his ex-girlfriend's home.
Felix is pleading not guilty to five counts of second-degree in the deaths of Shawn Marko, 56, Maxwell Lavallee, 41, Melelek Leseri Lesikel, 29, and sisters Crystal Shannon Beardy, 34, and Stephanie Amanda Beardy, 33.
Marko identified the shooter as Jamie Houle before he died, police say.
Since the beginning of Felix's jury trial last week, Felix's mother testified that she told police she suspected he did it.
In her testimony Monday, his girlfriend at the time testified that Felix admitted to killing people in the days after the Langside shooting.
Prosecutors have also called police who testified about finding Felix's fingerprints at the scene and reviewed surveillance footage in court suggesting Felix, Chummy, his daughter Savanna Fagnan, and girlfriend, Hall, were in the area at the time of the shooting.
