
Ex-Knick Kenny ‘Sky’ Walker: Obi Toppin’s development will take time

During last preseason, Pistons coach Dwane Casey compared Obi Toppin to former Kentucky star Kenny “Sky’’ Walker, the Knicks’ 1986 lottery pick who didn’t pan out.
Last November, the Knicks had picked the Dayton dunker at No. 8, one slot after the Pistons passed on Toppin for Killian Hayes. It’s still unclear what Casey was implying about the 2020 Naismith Trophy winner — college basketball’s player of the year — who experienced a modest rookie season. Walker, meanwhile, still lives in Lexington, Ky., and hosts a postgame show following Wildcats basketball and football contests. Even before Casey made his comparison, Walker had heard similar things.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.
