Writer Era Murukan was conferred with the Vishnupuram Literary Award for the year 2024 along with a prize of ₹5 lakh and a memento at a ceremony in Coimbatore on Sunday.
Era Murukan is known as one of the pioneers of modern Tamil literature and has earned a special place through the novel `Arasur Vamsam’.
A documentary film titled “A Garden of Shadows” was screened, and a book ‘Muppattaikannadiyinulagam’ was released. Kannada writer Vivek Shanbag participated as the special guest at the function. Writers Jeyamohan, M. Gopalakrishnan and Ramya offered felicitations.

The silent reading movement in the Mylapore-Mandaveli-RA Puram area showed up first at Nageswara Rao Park around two years ago, with modest ambitions, when Balaji launched it along with other reading enthusiasts from the region. This initiative has now moved parks, and seems to set to get entrenched in one. Due to renovation work at Nageswara Park, the reading session became irregular.
