Environment Canada issues severe thunderstorm warning for central Alberta

Environment Canada meteorologists issued a severe thunderstorm warning capable of producing strong gusts of wind, nickel-sized hail and heavy rain for central Alberta near Red Deer. Here is a list of the areas currently under a warning:
The warning previously included the City of Red Deer but it was removed shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday. The warnings for Lacombe County were also lifted shortly before 6 p.m.
The warning advises anyone caught in the storm to take cover if threatening weather approaches.
"Large hail can damage property and cause injury," the warning reads. "Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"
Such warnings are issued when dangerous thunderstorms are imminent or already occurring.

A thunderstorm watch is in place when conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms to develop but may not be imminent, according to Environment Canada.
