Waterloo Regional Police say Kingsway Drive is closed as emergency services respond to a fire at a townhouse complex.
Those who are travelling along Highway 8 in Kitchener Sunday afternoon can expect a bit of a smokey commute.
At around 1:15 p.m., large plumes of smoke could be seen over the highway and in the area of Fairway Road South and Kingsway Drive.
In a post to X, Waterloo Regional Police said Kingsway Drive is closed as emergency services respond to a fire at a townhouse complex.
They also said the complex is being evacuated and there are no reports of any injuries.
In an updated post, police said the fire is under control and not considered suspicious at this time.
Grand River Transit buses have been provided to residents to wait in as crews continue to battle the blaze.
