Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand, Manipur Live Updates: On the eve of the counting of votes, the Election Commission removed three officials after a massive controversy erupted over Samajwadi Party's allegation that electronic voting machines were being shifted in an unauthorised manner.
The Aam Aadmi Party appeared for landslide sweep in Punjab with most of its candidates ahead in seats considered to be stronghold of the Congress party. Both the Congress's biggest leaders in Punjab - Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state unit boss Navjot Singh Sidhu - were trailing, as counting of votes entered the third hour on Thursday. Amarinder Singh, former Chief Minister, trailing in his constituency of Patiala Urban seat.
In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP seems to have successfully tackled the anti-incumbency and is appeared to win over 250 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress are neck-and-neck. Among those leading included Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav from Karhal. The majority mark in the 403-member legislative assembly is 202.
Election trends show the BJP has extended its lead in Uttarakhand with the Congress trailing in the hill state. The BJP is leading in 44 seats, as per the election trends at 9:55 AM. The Congress is leading in 20 seats as per the early leads. Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party is leading in one seat
The Congress was leading in 15 Assembly seats of Goa, while the BJP was ahead in 13, as per the latest trends available of 38 out of the 40 seats in the state.
