Elavenil Valarivan wins bronze in women's air rifle at shooting World Cup, narrowly missing higher medal.
Elavenil Valarivan won the bronze medal in women’s air rifle in the shooting World Cup in Munich on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old Elavenil, who had qualified in second place with a high score of 635.6, missed the chance for a better medal by 0.2 point as she slipped from the lead position with a penultimate shot of 9.8. That was the only blip for Elavenil.
It was the first bronze in a World Cup for the former world No.1, who has four gold and a bronze in her kitty. Elavenil had also won the gold in World Cup Finals once.
The 18-year-old junior World champion, Wang Zifei of China, who shot a world record 637.9 in qualification in a strong field of 167 shooters, beat Korean Kwon Eunji by 0.1 point for the gold.
Varun Tomar made the men’s air pistol final in the second place with a score of 585.
