Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has issued a new circular outlining procedures for student registration and transfers in government schools for the 2026–2027 academic year, aiming to streamline processes for parents and ensure schools are fully prepared to receive students well ahead of the new term.
The first phase will involve an automated student transfer process for students transitioning between schools after completing their current educational stage. This applies to Kindergarten preparatory students, Grade 4 students in model boys’ schools, as well as Grade 6 and Grade 9 students. Schools will complete these procedures internally during February, with parents scheduled to receive official transfer notifications to the designated schools between March 29 and 31, 2026.
For new student registrations and transfer requests, the Ministry confirmed that applications will be processed electronically through the “Maaref” Public Services Portal, following a structured and accessible timeline. The first registration phase will begin on April 12, 2026, targeting siblings of Qatari students, children of Qatari mothers, and children of GCC nationals.
Registration will expand to all nationalities starting May 24, 2026. A further registration window will open at the start of the new academic year from August 25 until October 1, 2026, ensuring ample opportunity for all applicants.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding educational access by allocating 18 government schools to serve children of private-sector residents living in remote areas and outer villages across the country.
