Officials say the owner was not allowed to keep more than 30 livestock as per a 10-year court-ordered ban.
When a peace officer went to the property in mid-November to ensure the owner was complying with the ban, they found numerous dogs living outside without proper shelter and several were injured, Alberta SPCA says.
RCMP were called to assist the peace officer and ended up arresting James Allan Kurz, 64, for obstruction and assaulting a police officer.
Alberta SPCA returned on Nov. 26 to remove the animals, some of which were puppies that had not yet been weaned.
Kurz cooperated in the process, officials said.
He was also charged with cruelty to animals, disobeying a court order and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
