Tokyo: The Doha Forum and the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) have launched a strategic research initiative focused on the future of global governance.
The announcement came during a high-level event jointly hosted by the Doha Forum and JIIA in Tokyo Wednesday, titled “Prospects for International Order and Global Governance: A World Without Navigators”.
The event brought together over 100 prominent diplomats, academics, policymakers, and private sector leaders to explore the shifting dynamics of multilateral cooperation in an increasingly fragmented global landscape.
Discussions during the session addressed key challenges facing the multilateral system, including trade wars, unilateral sanctions, economic protectionism, and the waning influence of major powers, all of which have impacted the credibility of international institutions and global trust.
The role of middle powers and other actors in promoting stability, justice, and international cooperation was also examined. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Doha Forum and JIIA to formalize their research collaboration.
