Dodgers rally to clip Rockies 6-5

Zach McKinstry hit his first career home run, Corey Seager had three hits and the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 6-5 on Saturday night. Max Muncy and Austin Barnes had two hits apiece for the Dodgers. Blake Treinen (1-0) got the win and Kenley Jansen picked up his first save. Raimel Tapia homered before leaving the game in the eighth inning, Josh Fuentes also went deep for the Rockies. Starter Jon Gray allowed one run on four hits and struck out seven before leaving the game in the sixth due to full-body cramps. Colorado took a 1-0 lead in the third on Tapia’s first homer of the season. In the fourth, Ryan McMahon doubled to left to give Colorado a 2-0 lead against Walker Buehler. Buehler allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four in six innings. Gray cruised through five innings before Seager doubled on an 0-2 pitch to lead off the sixth. The trainer came to the mound along with manager Bud Black and after a discussion, Gray left the game and Yency Almonte took over. Almonte got the first two batters he faced but Muncy singled to drive in Seager. AJ Pollock followed with a single, Almonte hit Edwin Rios and Barnes rapped a two-run single to left to give the Dodgers a 3-2 lead. Seager made it 4-2 in the seventh when he singled after Gavin Lux tripled, but the Rockies rallied in the bottom of the inning. McMahon hit into a forceout and Fuentes followed with his first home run of the season. McKinstry gave Los Angeles the lead again with an inside-the-park home run off of Mychal Givens (0-1) in the eighth. Tapia leaped and pulled the ball back from over the wall but was injured on the play, allowing McKinstry to round the bases. Givens then walked two and Chris Taylor doubled to drive in Lux and make it 6-4. Colorado got a run back in the bottom of the eighth on Trevor Story’s RBI double. Justin Upton’s blast lifts Angels over ChiSox Justin Upton’s two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning snapped a tie and lifted the Los Angeles Angels to a 5-3 win over the Chicago White Sox Saturday night in Anaheim, Calif. Upton’s game-winner capped a three-run rally in the eighth, which included an RBI triple from Jared Walsh that tied the game at 3-3. Walsh, getting his first start of the season in place of Albert Pujols at first base, had two hits. Second baseman David Fletcher also had two hits for Los Angeles. White Sox DH Yermin Mercedes not only had three hits and drove in two runs, but the 28-year-old rookie also did something that had not been done in more than 120 years. Following his 5-for-5 performance on Friday, Mercedes had a home run, single and double in his first three at-bats Saturday. He became the first player since 1900 to start the season with hits in his first eight at-bats.
