DMK functionary stabbed to death in Tiruvannamalai village, property dispute suspected, police investigation ongoing.
A 52-year-old DMK functionary was stabbed by a gang that intercepted him on Pandimangalam Koot Road at Sholavaram village near Cheyyar town in Tiruvannamalai on Thursday.
Police said the deceased has been identified as C. Thirumalai, a father of two and deputy organiser of the farmers’ wing of DMK for north Tiruvannamalai. His wife T. Prabhavathi, 48, was former president of Ukkam Perumbakkam village panchayat. He was living with his family in the village.
Initial inquiry revealed that Thirumalai was returning by two-wheeler after appearing before a local court in an illegal mining case when a gang intercepted him and hacked him to death, before fleeing the spot.
Motorists and passers-by alerted Dusi police, who rushed to the spot with an ambulance. They shifted him to Government Medical College Hospital in Chengalpattu where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police said that Thirumalai and his family had a property dispute with his relatives. Both parties had lodged complaints against each other with the local police after clashing over the dispute last week. A case was registered by the Dusi police and a probe is under way.

The silent reading movement in the Mylapore-Mandaveli-RA Puram area showed up first at Nageswara Rao Park around two years ago, with modest ambitions, when Balaji launched it along with other reading enthusiasts from the region. This initiative has now moved parks, and seems to set to get entrenched in one. Due to renovation work at Nageswara Park, the reading session became irregular. With the Nageswara Rao park work gaining more surface area, it had to be shifted elsewhere. And it seems set to continue with a newly discovered green patch in RK Nagar in the Sundays to follow.
