Democracy has been let down in Afghanistan, says Gautam Mukhopadhaya, former Indian envoy to Syria

Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2021, Gautam Mukhopadhaya, the former Ambassador of India to Syria, Afghanistan and Myanmar, said democracy has been let down in Afghanistan.
Gautam Mukhopadhaya, the former Ambassador of India to Syria, Afghanistan and Myanmar, said democracy has been let down in Afghanistan. Mukhopadhaya was speaking at the India Today Conclave 2021.
When asked if the current situation in Afghanistan a victory for Pakistan, Hussain Haqqani, former Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States and Sri Lanka said, "It is a victory for Pakistan. Pakistan has single-mindedly focused on security visa-vis India and that they supported the Taliban all these years. They would argue that they were supporting them but recognising the reality on ground and the victory of the Taliban recognises this victory."
