Hindu devotees throng the Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand with Badrinath and Kedarnath Dham being their favourite destinations. Not just the Hindus, even the Sikhs also take a tour of Hemkund Sahib Yatra on a similar route. But, the monsoon is not the best time to embark on this journey along this route.
The all-weather road towards the Badrinath Shrine is infested with landslides of small and large scale and the rain has made the route unsafe at several locations. Sirohbagad is located on the border of Rudraprayag and Pauri districts of Uttarakhand. You would witness multiple development sites such as road network expansion projects, new bridges to connect district blocks and work to build alternate routes being carried out. Sirohbagad is the key route for the Badrinath, Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib Yatra. It is also the lifeline of Chamoli district and its main supply chain.
But Sirohbagad is also known for landslides. At certain locations, the risks of landslides become even higher and the traffic gets choked for near an hour to a day's extent.
According to locals, in the past week, they have seen multiple landlines in Sirohbagad which disrupted the movement of traffic for hours.
