Delhi HC asks police to respond to JNU student Sharjeel Imam’s bail plea in sedition case

JNU student Sharjeel Imam challenged a trial court’s October 22 order by which his bail plea was dismissed
The Delhi High Court on December 1 asked the police to reply on a plea by JNU student Sharjeel Imam, arrested in a sedition case for allegedly delivering an inflammatory speech and inciting violence during the CAA-NRC protests in 2019.
Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar issued notice to the prosecution and asked them to file reply to the bail plea while listing the matter for further hearing on February 11, next year.
Imam, represented through senior advocate Sanjay R. Hegde, challenged a trial court’s October 22 order by which his bail plea was dismissed.
The High Court of Karnataka on Friday directed the State government to file its statement of objections on an application filed by Bangalore Turf Club Ltd. (BTC), challenging the June 6 orders passed by the government in rejecting the BTC’s applications seeking permission to conduct on-course horse races and betting during the June-August season.
