Dave Roberts accuses Padres of intentionally hitting Shohei Ohtani in tense scene
NY Post
There were a number of batters hit in Tuesday night’s rivalry matchup between the Dodgers and Padres. — with Shohei Ohtani being the breaking point.
Ohtani was plunked in the bottom of the third inning by Padres pitcher Randy Vasquez, which sent manager Dave Roberts into an irate tirade toward the umpires.
Roberts was ejected from the game after a drawn-out and heated discussion.
After Roberts talked to second-base umpire Marvin Hudson for a while, third-base umpire Trent Gibson then came over as tempers escalated.
Roberts was asked at his postgame press conference whether he thought the hit was intentional.
“Absolutely. Absolutely,” Roberts said. “For me, if they feel that’s warranted on their side … own it. And we move on. But it’s not a misfire. I do feel it was intentional.”

SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.

Wednesday was another positive day at Yankees camp. For the first time since March 6, 2025 — an outing in which he knew “something wasn’t right,” which began a weeks-long saga that ended on the operating table for Tommy John surgery — Gerrit Cole was back on a mound and facing hitters in game action.
