Daniel Vettori has backed Ravichandran Ashwin to come good in Australia and has suggested that he can fill in the spot left by Ravindra Jadeja in the T20 World Cup.
Daniel Vettori has claimed that Ravichandran Ashwin can make a big impact for India in the T20 World Cup and could fill in the spot left vacant by Ravindra Jadeja's absence from the squad.
Jadeja was ruled out of the event after undergoing surgery to fix an injury he suffered during the Asia Cup. Ashwin was then included in the contingent that would be traveling to Australia.
Vettori, as quoted by The Hindu, said that Ashwin is very adaptable and can fill in the role of Jadeja in the paling eleven.
"We all know Ashwin has been exceptional in Tests. The thing for him is he's coming off a great IPL, and he's obviously included in the T20 squad for India," the former New Zealand captain, who is here to play the second edition of the Legends League Cricket, told reporters.
"He's one of those guys who's very adaptable, he understands what he needs to do in all situations. I think if he's picked he will know how to perform. He's been to Australia on a number of occasions."
"India does have a plethora of spin bowlers, a lot to choose from. The fact that most of the spinners are all-rounders as well, I think that sets him apart and gives the team a good balance."
