Republicans are energized following now Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin's narrow victory over former Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe in Virginia, a state that Joe Biden carried by 10 points just a year ago and where GOP candidates hadn’t won statewide in a dozen years.
Republicans also captured the offices of lieutenant governor and attorney general, and recaptured the majority in Virginia's House of Delegates.
In deep blue New Jersey, GOP nominee Jack Ciattarelli nearly unseated Democratic incumbent Phil Murphy in the gubernatorial race, and the Republican Party made gains in the state legislature.
